--taken from my service-learning project reflections--
As the second term of the school year kicks in, school life is busy already without trying to coordinate this massive project. Whenever meeting time comes around, we always find that some of us will be distracted or even away at other commitments mentally, if not physically. I myself have been guilty of this habit on a few occasions.
Academically, secondary four is simply much more taxing than any previous years. Despite the voiding of the O’levels, getting the best results possible this year is still instrumental to our future. Some people will be struggling for promotion to JC, the others will be fighting for awards, and no body is spared the backbreaking stress of senior year life. Faced with the prospect of being barred from taking our preferred subjects or even losing out in JC This year is simply make-or-break for most of us.The importance of the year itself often lures naïve students like myself into over-committing, overlooking quality for quantity. Multiple projects added onto the already taxing schedule of past years make for a horrific schedule with multiple clashing events. 24hours is simply not enough for work, play, and rest. In the past week, I have already dropped one project and relegated EP3 commitment just to make it through. The long-term effect it would cause me had I not done so is at best depressing.
